"THESPIS"

OR THE GODS GROWN OLD

In 2007/8 Anthony collaborated with Conductor and arranger, Timothy Henty on creating a viable vocal score and performing edition for Gilbert and Sullivan's first collaboration, "Thespis , or The Gods Grown Old" the original score of which is lost. This resulted in the first and only fully professional performance of this work since its initial London Gaiety Theatre run in  1872, which took place over three sold out performances at the historic Normansfield Theatre,Teddington. The cast included the inimitable Richard Suart in the title role.

Subsequently Anthony and Timothy published their vocal score and revised libretto and made this new version available for public performance. To date the Baker/Henty "Thespis"  has been performed by enthusiastic amateur companies in the UK , USA and Australia. As well as making an appearance at the annual Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate in 2014 peformed by the combined forces of the Savoynet company.

The score can be published via Lulu.com and requests for licensing rights for public performances can be made to either Anthony or Timothy directly, through their respective websites.
